Food

Food is very important. We iguanas are herbivores. This means we eat fruits and vegetables. When I was younger I was not fed the variety of foods I needed to grow big and strong. This is why I am stunted and probably will not live a very long life. I still need the right kind of food every day. I have to have enough calcium, vitamins, minerals, and plant protein. These are good places to find out the proper diet for an iguana:

My caretaker offers me yummy foods every day. Straight from the organic garden I get collard greens, cabbage, broccoli leaves, cauliflower leaves, parsley, onion, grape leaves, Swiss Chard, and mustard and rapini when they are growing. I have her trained to pick a few wild leaves from the yard too like dandelion, clover and Filaree. She adds a nice Hibiscus flower when there is one. I also get shredded carrot and squash, alfalfa sprouts, turnip greens and a few grapes plus whatever fruit she has from the store. It helps that she is a vegetarian herself. She and I get the same things to eat. Personally I would rather eat the cats' food, but she hides that when I am out, and my doctor says it would kill me to eat cat or dog food.

Of course when I am at her house I know that I get to go outside so I don't eat the food in my dish. I wait and eat the weeds in the yard.

This shows her who is in charge-ME!!
